One Simple Battery Test: 1) Connect the voltmeter directly across the "Battery Terminals". (NOT to the Cable Clamps) 2) While watching the meter, Start the Car. 3) The Battery Voltage should Never fall below about 10 Volts. If it does: a) The battery is either "Low in Charge". b) Or The Battery is "Low in Water". While the alternator does make more juice than the battery the battery is a great "ready to go" source of power. Think of it like a big capacitor by your subwoofer.

On my 07 chevy impala, all the lights will dim, brighten, dim, brighten while I am driving. It seems like it loses a little power, gets it back, loses a little power at the same time the lights are doing its thing. Anybody have any ideas of what this could be? I already had the alternator and battery tested and they were fine. Best texas deer hunts.
That thing is very optimistic and tells you the batteries are full at 13.4 volts, when they are actually nowhere near it (14.4 volts). It works by looking at the voltage present on the wiring, which will be much higher than the battery voltage while charging & much lower than the battery voltage when running loads. The battery has drained several times since and more frequently lately. One morning it wouldn't start and the only thing I could think of is that I listened to the radio for 5 minutes after shutting off the car. Other times, it was after driving the car a short distance, shutting it off and driving another short distance and doing the same.
